George Michael had both written and produced the song which had been released on CBS Records on the 3rd of December, 1984 and was also released with "Everything She Wants" in the UK by Epic Records as a double A-side. Last Christmas was kept off number one by the song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid, which George Michael had also made a contribution on. Last Christmas had spent five consecutive weeks on number two in the UK Singles Chart, and for 36 years with over 2 million .
